When a guy says i love you first?

Well...theres this guy who said i love you to me first but i like him.He's mostly said it to me on the phone or texting but he's never said it to me face to face. also i don't know what to reply when he says i love you i normally just say ok or i like you .errr..i don't know what i should reply to him.
