Since people are free to believe whatever they like, are we bound to tolerate even the dumbest of them?

Should we show respect for folks who think pigs can fly and donkeys can talk, or would it be better in the long run for us to laugh our es off and sham them for their willful ignorance whenever they speak such nonsense?
